The Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) is an industry taxonomy developed in 1999 by MSCI and Standard & Poor's (S&P) for use by the global financial community. The GICS structure consists of 11 sectors, 24 industry groups, 69 industries and 158 sub-industries [1] into which S&P has categorized all major public companies . The MSCI ACWI index covers 85% of the global market capitalisation. It tracks over 2,800 large and mid-cap stocks in 23 developed markets and 26 emerging markets. However, the share of emerging markets in the ACWI is only around 11% whereas they have more than a one-third share of world GDP.
