Crude oil natural gas ratio

Crude Oil to Natural Gas Price Ratio is at a current level of 26.30, down from 27.27 the previous market day and up from 24.89 one year ago. This is a change of -3.59% from the previous market day and 5.66% from one year ago. Up until 2009, the oil price to natural gas averaged 10:1, meaning when oil was at $50 a barrel, natural gas would be at $5 per MMBtu. The higher the oil price to natural gas ratio, the greater Gas Oil Ratio is the volume of gas that is produced from crude oil when the oil is being extracted from the reservoir to the earth's surface through production tubing. This is generally related to associated gas (AG) or saturated gas in the oil reservoir. It is represented as standard cubic feet per stock tank barrel (scf/stb).

There are two ways typically used to express the crude-to-gas ratio: (a) the rule of thumb method, which is simply crude price divided by natural gas price; or (b) the Btu ratio method, which is gas price divided by (crude price/5.8), where 5.8 is the approximate number of MMBtu in a barrel of crude. In the First Episode in this two part series we reviewed the history of the crude-to-gas ratio that before 2008 averaged 7.5X but jumped to an all time high of 54X in 2012 during the “Great Divide” when oil prices were over $100/Bbl and natural gas sank below $2/MMBtu. The chart above shows statistics on the ratio between natural gas and crude oil over the last 21 years. As can be seen, the highest ratio seen was 26.35 in late August 2009. The ratio as it Gas Oil Ratio (GOR) is a commonly used term in the crude oil exploration and production industry. GOR is the ratio of volumetric flow of produced gas to the volumetric flow of crude oil for crude oil and gas mixture sample. The gas oil ratio is a measure of the volume of gas produced along with oil from the same well. Gas/oil ratio refers to the relative amounts of petroleum and natural gas that are simultaneously removed from the ground. The natural gas may be located in a nearby deposit or exist in solution with the crude oil. When the oil is drawn to the surface, much of the natural gas escapes from the solution. As you can see in the above graphic, the crude oil and natural gas ratio has ranged between roughly 14 and 24 in the last couple years. With crude oil trading currently around $51/ barrel, and natural gas trading $2.90, the crude oil and natural gas ratio at this time would equate to roughly 17.5. 1. Crude oil and natural gas are fossil fuels that are used for heating. 2.
